Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

The best way to find out about upcoming volunteer and training opportunities is by joining the mailing list. To join the mailing list, send an email to Mary Beth Levin.

For Individuals:

  • Kit-making nights: We hold kit-making sessions the second Tuesday of the month, 6-8 pm. We make safer sex kits and wound care kits. No previous experience is required.
  • Volunteering on the van: There are volunteer opportunities to work on the mobile health unit after completing our two-day training. It is offered every 3-4 months. Also, we welcome HIV test counselors if they are already fully certified.
  • For more information, please contact Mary Beth Levin.

For Groups:

  • We welcome groups of up to twenty to volunteer for one-half or one full day.
  • Opportunities include landscaping and facility maintenance, putting together safer sex kits and wound care kits, and supervised outreach.
  • For more information, please contact Mary Beth Levin.

Internships

In addition, we have internship opportunities in which a person volunteers one or two full days per week. We are a registered practicum site with the George Washington School Public Health. We are a registered internship site with Marymount University. And we are approved for the service requirement at the Georgetown University School of Medicine.

  • Outreach Intern: This intern does everything the outreach workers do: outreach, data entry, rehab/detox referral, HIV testing (if you are certified), and syringe exchange. Interns can be graduate or undergraduate students. For more information, please contact Mary Beth Levin.

  • Case Management and Treatment Adherence: This internship is designed primarily for graduate and undergraduate students of social work. Interns work closely with our medical case managers to ensure that clients receive wrap around services and help coordinate their care. For more information, please contact Willie Ringold.

  • Administrative, public health, management and development/fundraising: For more information, please contact Kumara Rama
